Senior Sessions

Sessions

A senior portrait session with J GALLUS PHOTOGRAPHY is an experience like no other. Our contemporary portrait style combined with your unique style produces an individualized session that can’t be beat. Our goal is to create distinctive and memorable artwork that will be treasured for a lifetime. A treasured item, such as a portrait, no doubt is something that you would find to be valuable. Value has many contributing factors when it comes to portraiture. There is the talent of the artist that creates the images, capturing your distinctive personality, diversity of backgrounds, creative poses, and enjoying the experience all the way through. So, it is nearly impossible to evaluate value by comparing pricing between studios. Pricing will just show you how much you’re going to pay for an item, however, value means you’ve received much more than what you paid. It’s reasonable to see that expensive portraits are going to be those that you pay for and won’t fully enjoy each time you look at them or don’t want to share with family and friends. At J GALLUS PHOTOGRAPHY, we feel that your experience with us will prove that we offer a great value for what we offer.

Along with our contemporary style, you will find that J GALLUS PHOTOGRAPHY is a high quality, low volume studio where you can relax and not be treated you as ‘one of the masses’. There is no pressure for you to be anything but yourself. You will find that we devote the time necessary to build a relationship with you and to make sure to capture the kinds of images you want.

We understand that you are and individual, and will work to bring that out in your personalized portrait session. No two portrait sessions are ever the same, so your images won't look like your friends.

We invest in you! Each senior will receive a complimentary pre-portrait consultation to discuss your wants, needs and desires of your portrait session. We will also visit about which session will fit you best. We will then make arrangements to schedule your portrait session as well as any other appointments prior to the session. Once your portrait session is completed, you’ll be invited back to the studio to view your images by slideshow projection. We will be happy to suggest portrait designs to fulfill your needs. From wall portraits, coffee table books and graduation announcement cards to framing and ‘movie trailer’ style slideshows, we’ll take care of you. After a short few weeks, your order will be completed and ready for delivery.

Supreme Portrait Experience
This portrait selection is as good as it can get! This session will start off with a portrait consultation with Jason to discuss all the possibilities for your personalized portrait session. That’s where the fun begins! Next we will schedule an appointment with our personal stylist. He will come to your house and visit with you for approximately two hours, going through your closet and wardrobe to help decide which clothing to use, not only for your portrait session, but also the kinds of clothes that best fit your shape and style for long after our session is done. If further shopping is needed, he’ll accompany you to the mall to continue to search for the clothing that best suits you. We then will schedule you in with a hair stylist and make up artist to polish off your look. We’ll complete this amazing experience with a portrait session that will include the Premium and Basic Session as well as 2 locations of your choice in the metro area.

Senior Portrait Tips

Here are some things to take into consideration that will help you get the most out of your senior portrait session and experience with J GALLUS PHOTOGRAPHY.

Arriving Early
It is important to plan ahead for your portrait session. Plan to arrive a few minutes early as that will allow us time to visit and select the best outfits to fit your session, and make some last minute adjustments (hair, makeup, etc.). An outdoor portrait session time is carefully selected to take advantage of the best lighting conditions possible, so it’s best to arrive early.

Clothing
Clothing is certainly one of the ways that you use to express yourself and there are many different styles in which you can do this. While clothing can be used to flatter and accentuate your body type, it can just as quickly do the opposite. J GALLUS PHOTOGRAPHY provides an option to hire and schedule a clothing stylist prior to your portrait session. The stylist will work with you and your style to find the clothing articles to help you look your best.

No matter what look you want to achieve or style, there are a few things to keep in mind.

In order to help you look your best we suggest that you AVOID clothing with any sort of WORDING or patterns including STRIPES or PLAIDS. Solids will photograph much better.

Clothing VARIETY is going to be key to having an exciting portrait session. Even though you may have a favorite color, bring several different colors that we can use to help keep all the images from looking the same. It’s also good to vary the style of shirts and pants that you bring to show your own unique touch. We also suggest that you vary the dress level of your outfits. Bring something that is dressy, something medium, and something casual. Don’t be shy with the amount of clothing that you bring. We don’t limit the number of clothing changes for our sessions, so the more you bring the more options we’ll have to choose from. We’ll be sure to help decide to what will work best for your particular portrait session.

Don’t forget to plan your outfits completely. We’ll be photographing some close ups as well as full length shots. So bring the right shoes and accessories to complete your look. It’s also a good idea to group your outfits ON HANGERS after they’ve been pressed. That will keep them from being a wrinkled mess by the time you arrive. Another thing to think about with planning your complete outfits, would be undergarments. Careful thought should be taken while considering what kind of tops or bottoms that will be worn and having the appropriate undergarments, so that they will not show through.

If you are doing an outdoor or urban session, there most likely isn’t going to be a place to change. By wearing a layered outfit, you’ll be able to add or drop a piece of clothing for a completely different look.

No doubt Mom or Dad have some opinions on what they would like to see you wear. Don’t sweat it! After a few shots to get them what they want, we’ll be spending the rest of the time getting the look YOU want.

From the Neck Up
Even though J GALLUS PHOTOGRAPHY includes retouching on all images ordered, there are still a few things to keep in mind with styling.

Hair: J GALLUS PHOTOGRAPHY provides an option to hire and schedule a hair stylist prior to your portrait session. Whether you choose to go with a stylist, or do your own hair it is best to avoid changing your hairstyle or get your hair cut right before your session. A quick trim is most likely fine, but a completely different look is not advisable. Feel free to bring your own hair care tools and products for some quick adjustments if needed.

Make Up: J GALLUS PHOTOGRAPHY provides an option to hire and schedule a make up artist prior to your portrait session. If you choose to do your own make up, it’s usually best to be a bit more conservative with use of color. You’ll be changing into a variety of outfits so you’ll want to make sure that your make up selections will be able to fit with those changes. Make sure that your mascara is clean and doesn’t clump when you apply it. Avoid using make up that has ‘sparkles’ in it. While it is fun and playful, when photographed it’s not as flattering and looks more like blemishes.

Shaving: Please make sure you are clean shaven. Stubble doesn’t photograph as well as it looks in person. If you’ve got a goatee that your mom or dad finds less than desirable, we might still be able to keep everyone happy. Bring your shaving gear and after getting the shots you want, you can shave it off before getting the shots that they would like.

Glasses: Since most glasses glare, we suggest that you check with your optometrist. Most will ‘loan’ you an empty set of frames similar to the ones you wear for your portrait session.

Complexion: All ordered images are fully retouched, so don’t worry if you break out or a few blemishes. You’ll never know they were there!

Jewelry: With jewelry, it’s best to keep it simple. We want the focus to be you, not something that will be distracting. If you have several pieces that you want to coordinate with your outfits, go ahead and put them into separate baggies to hang with the hangar for each outfit for easy access.

Braces: If you have braces. Not to worry! That is something that can be taken care of in post production once the image is ordered – no extra charges!

Finger & Toe Nails
Nails are just as important as make up. It is best to avoid bright colors and use something that has more versatility with being more neutral or basic and will coordinate with several outfits. Be sure that they are freshly painted, so they are not chipped and show wear.

Props
Props are certainly encouraged. If you have anything special to you, that helps tell others about you – you’re welcome to bring it! Some popular choices include sports equipment, musical instruments, vehicles, art pieces created by you or even things you collect. This is an area that is pretty much - “Sky is the limit”.

Pets
If you have a favorite pet that you would like to be photographed with, we can accommodate that too. We’ll work to figure out the appropriate setting to be photographed with your pet. Typically, it is best to have someone else bring your pet and then leave with them after. We’ll be sure to work out the details ahead of time.

Friends & ParentsFriends and parents are welcome to join you on your session. They can be a good help. HOWEVER, if they would distract you, it is probably best that they don’t accompany you. Just as with pets, a boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend or sibling can stop by for a few shots at no extra charge and then leave.

Weather & Outdoor Portraits
Unfortunately, weather is unpredictable and we’re at it’s mercy. If it rains or worse, not to worry! We’ll just reschedule. We will check in with you a day or two prior to your session to confirm our appointment and discuss the weather situation and if we might need to schedule a ‘Plan B’.

Tattoos & Scars
As part of your pre-portrait consultation we’ll discuss if there are any tattoos or scars that you may or may not want to show. Tattoos and scars are not automatically retouched from images, but can be removed or softened at your request – no extra charges!
